Why check
Accepted is not the same as correct.
The ATO checks returns for what was over-claimed. Nobody checks for what was under-claimed.
When the ATO accepts a return, it confirms the return was lodged and processed. It does not confirm you claimed everything you were entitled to and no letter arrives when you have paid more than you needed to.
Where returns commonly come up short.
A year that was not typical. Changing jobs mid-year, two employers at once, a redundancy payment, unpaid leave, or the first year of a side income.
Rules that moved. Working from home methods have changed more than once. A return prepared on last year's habits can quietly use the wrong method.
Expenses that did not feel claimable. Licences, memberships, tools bought out of pocket, protective gear, the cost of managing your tax affairs.
A rushed lodgement. A return finished in twenty minutes in October is a return where nobody went looking.
Your accountant is not the problem. A tax agent is paid to lodge your return from the information you gave them. Nobody is paid to go back and double-check that work afterwards. Until now.

The clock started the day your assessment issued.
Amendment periods are set by tax law and can differ depending on your circumstances. Once the period closes, the return generally cannot be amended and an overpayment stays with the ATO.
Check before it closes.
Tell us which years you have lodged and a registered tax agent will confirm where your return sits.
Refunds are not guaranteed. Untax is a referral service, not a tax agent.
